"Or thou have a house adorned with gold, or thou mount a ladder right into the skies. No, we shall not even believe in thy mounting until thou send down to us a book that we could read." Say: "Glory to my Lord! Am I aught but a man,- a messenger?"

Moses said: "Thou wilt find me, if Allah so will, (truly) patient: nor shall I disobey thee in aught."

The other said: "If then thou wouldst follow me, ask me no questions about anything until I myself speak to thee concerning it."

He answered: "Did I not tell thee that thou canst have no patience with me?"

They said: "O Zul-qarnain! the Gog and Magog (People) do great mischief on earth: shall we then render thee tribute in order that thou mightest erect a barrier between us and them?

Abraham said: "Peace be on thee: I will pray to my Lord for thy forgiveness: for He is to me Most Gracious.

(Moses) said: "Get thee gone! but thy (punishment) in this life will be that thou wilt say, 'touch me not'; and moreover (for a future penalty) thou hast a promise that will not fail: Now look at thy god, of whom thou hast become a devoted worshipper: We will certainly (melt) it in a blazing fire and scatter it broadcast in the sea!"

Then We said: "O Adam! verily, this is an enemy to thee and thy wife: so let him not get you both out of the Garden, so that thou art landed in misery.

"There is therein (enough provision) for thee not to go hungry nor to go naked,

See what kinds of comparisons they make for thee! But they have gone astray, and never a way will they be able to find!

Blessed is He who, if that were His will, could give thee better (things) than those,- Gardens beneath which rivers flow; and He could give thee palaces (secure to dwell in).

They said: "Shall we believe in thee when it is the meanest that follow thee?"

And there came a man, running, from the furthest end of the City. He said: "O Moses! the Chiefs are taking counsel together about thee, to slay thee: so get thee away, for I do give thee sincere advice."

But if they hearken not to thee, know that they only follow their own lusts: and who is more astray than one who follow his own lusts, devoid of guidance from Allah? for Allah guides not people given to wrong-doing.

We have enjoined on man kindness to parents: but if they (either of them) strive (to force) thee to join with Me (in worship) anything of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not. Ye have (all) to return to me, and I will tell you (the truth) of all that ye did.

"But if they strive to make thee join in worship with Me things of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not; yet bear them company in this life with justice (and consideration), and follow the way of those who turn to me (in love): in the end the return of you all is to Me, and I will tell you the truth (and meaning) of all that ye did."

O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those whom thy right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom Allah has assigned to thee; and daughters of thy paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of thy maternal uncles and aunts, who migrated (from Makka) with thee; and any believing woman who dedicates her soul to the Prophet if the Prophet wishes to wed her;- this only for thee, and not for the Believers (at large); We know what We have appointed for them as to their wives and the captives whom their right hands possess;- in order that there should be no difficulty for thee. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

It is not lawful for thee (to marry more) women after this, nor to change them for (other) wives, even though their beauty attract thee, except any thy right hand should possess (as handmaidens): and Allah doth watch over all things.

Nothing is said to thee that was not said to the messengers before thee: that thy lord has at his Command (all) forgiveness as well as a most Grievous Penalty.

The (Qur'an) is indeed the message, for thee and for thy people; and soon shall ye (all) be brought to account.

And they say, "Are our gods best, or he?" This they set forth to thee, only by way of disputation: yea, they are a contentious people.

Verily We have granted thee a manifest Victory:

That Allah may forgive thee thy faults of the past and those to follow; fulfil His favour to thee; and guide thee on the Straight Way;

The desert Arabs who lagged behind will say to thee: "We were engaged in (looking after) our flocks and herds, and our families: do thou then ask forgiveness for us." They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say: "Who then has any power at all (to intervene) on your behalf with Allah, if His Will is to give you some loss or to give you some profit? But Allah is well acquainted with all that ye do.

(For him is the salutation), "Peace be unto thee", from the Companions of the Right Hand.

There is for you an excellent example (to follow) in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people: "We are clear of you and of whatever ye worship besides Allah: we have rejected you, and there has arisen, between us and you, enmity and hatred for ever,- unless ye believe in Allah and Him alone": But not when Abraham said to his father: "I will pray for forgiveness for thee, though I have no power (to get) aught on thy behalf from Allah." 他们说：“左勒盖尔奈英啊！雅朱者和马朱者，的确在地方捣乱，我们向你进贡，务请你在我们和他们之间建筑一座壁垒，好吗？”

他说：“祝你平安！我将为你向我的主求饶，他对我确是仁慈的。

他说：“你去吧！你这辈子必定常说：不要接触我。你确有一个（受刑的）约期，你绝不能避免它，你看你虔诚住守的神灵吧！我们必定要焚化它，然后必把它撒在海里。

你看他们怎样为你打了许多譬喻，而他们自己误入歧途，故不能获得一条正路。

圣洁哉真主！如果他意欲，他要赏赐你比那个更好的，即下临诸河的一些果园，他要赏赐他一些大厦。

他们说：“一些最卑贱的人追随你，我们怎能信仰你呢？”

有一个人，从城的极远处忙来说：“穆萨啊！臣仆们的确正在商议要杀你，你快出走吧。我确是忠于你的。”

如果他们不答应你，那末，你应当知道他们只是顺从自己的私欲。舍真主所启示的正道，而顺从自己的私欲者，有谁比他更迷误呢？真主必定不引导不义的民众。

我曾命人孝敬父母；如果他俩勒令你用你所不知道的东西配我，那末，你不要服从他俩。你们要归于我，我要把你们的行为告诉你们。

如果他俩勒令你以你所不知道的东西配我，那么，你不要服从他俩，在今世，你应当依礼义而奉事他俩，你应当遵守归依我者的道路；惟我是你们的归宿，我要把你们的行为告诉你们。”

先知啊！我确已准你享受你给予聘礼的妻子，你的奴婢，即真主以为你的战利品的，你的从父的女儿．你的姑母的女儿．你的舅父的女儿．你的姨母的女儿．她们是同你一道迁居的。信道的妇女，若将自身赠与先知，若先知愿意娶她，这是特许你的，信士们不得援例--我知道我为他们的妻子与奴婢而对他们做出的规定--以免你感受困难。真主是至赦的，是至慈的。

人们对你说的，不过是以往对众使者说过的谰言，你的主，确是有赦宥的，确是有痛惩的。

《古兰经》确是你和你的宗族的荣誉，你们将来要被审问。

他们说：“我们的众神灵更好呢？还是他更好呢？”他们只是为强词夺理而举他为例，不然，他们是好辩的民众。

我确已赏赐你一种明显的胜利，

以便真主赦宥你已往的和将来的过失，并完成他对你的恩典，且昭示你一条正路。

留在后方的游牧人们将说：“我们要照料我们的家产和家属，所以请你为我们求饶。”他们用他们的舌头说的不是他们的心里话。你说：“谁能为你们干涉真主一丝毫？如果他要降祸于你们，或降福于你们。真主是彻知你们的行为的。

那末，一般幸福的人将对他说：“祝你平安！”

易卜拉欣和他的教徒，是你们的好模范。当时，他们曾对自己的宗族说：“我们对於你们，和你们舍真主而崇拜的，确是无干的，我们不承认你们。我们彼此间的仇恨，永远存在。直到你们只信仰真主。”但易卜拉欣对他父亲所说的话，不可做你们的模范。他曾说：“我必定为你求饶，我不能为你抵御真主的一些刑罚。”他们曾说：“我们的主啊！我们只信托你，我们只依归你，只有你是最後的归宿。
