When they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe;" but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say: "We are really with you: We (were) only jesting."

And believe in what I reveal, confirming the revelation which is with you, and be not the first to reject Faith therein, nor sell My Signs for a small price; and fear Me, and Me alone.

Behold! Allah took the covenant of the prophets, saying: "I give you a Book and Wisdom; then comes to you a messenger, confirming what is with you; do ye believe in him and render him help." Allah said: "Do ye agree, and take this my Covenant as binding on you?" They said: "We agree." He said: "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."

Behold! Allah took the covenant of the prophets, saying: "I give you a Book and Wisdom; then comes to you a messenger, confirming what is with you; do ye believe in him and render him help." Allah said: "Do ye agree, and take this my Covenant as binding on you?" They said: "We agree." He said: "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."

O ye People of the Book! believe in what We have (now) revealed, confirming what was (already) with you, before We change the face and fame of some (of you) beyond all recognition, and turn them hindwards, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbath-breakers, for the decision of Allah Must be carried out.

(These are) the ones who wait and watch about you: if ye do gain a victory from Allah, they say: "Were we not with you?"- but if the unbelievers gain a success, they say (to them): "Did we not gain an advantage over you, and did we not guard you from the believers?" but Allah will judge betwixt you on the Day of Judgment. And never will Allah grant to the unbelievers a way (to triumphs) over the believers.

Allah did aforetime take a covenant from the Children of Israel, and we appointed twelve captains among them. And Allah said: "I am with you: if ye (but) establish regular prayers, practise regular charity, believe in my messengers, honour and assist them, and loan to Allah a beautiful loan, verily I will wipe out from you your evils, and admit you to gardens with rivers flowing beneath; but if any of you, after this, resisteth faith, he hath truly wandered from the path or rectitude."

"And behold! ye come to us bare and alone as We created you for the first time: ye have left behind you all (the favours) which We bestowed on you: We see not with you your intercessors whom ye thought to be partners in your affairs: so now all relations between you have been cut off, and your (pet) fancies have left you in the lurch!"

He said: "Punishment and wrath have already come upon you from your Lord: dispute ye with me over names which ye have devised - ye and your fathers,- without authority from Allah? then wait: I am amongst you, also waiting."

Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them."

And those who accept Faith subsequently, and adopt exile, and fight for the Faith in your company,- they are of you. But kindred by blood have prior rights against each other in the Book of Allah. Verily Allah is well-acquainted with all things.

If there had been immediate gain (in sight), and the journey easy, they would (all) without doubt have followed thee, but the distance was long, (and weighed) on them. They would indeed swear by Allah, "If we only could, we should certainly have come out with you": They would destroy their own souls; for Allah doth know that they are certainly lying.

Say: "Can you expect for us (any fate) other than one of two glorious things- (Martyrdom or victory)? But we can expect for you either that Allah will send his punishment from Himself, or by our hands. So wait (expectant); we too will wait with you."

They say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?" Say: "The Unseen is only for Allah (to know), then wait ye: I too will wait with you."

Do they then expect (any thing) but (what happened in) the days of the men who passed away before them? Say: "Wait ye then: for I, too, will wait with you."

"And O my people! Do whatever ye can: I will do (my part): Soon will ye know who it is on whom descends the penalty of ignominy; and who is a liar! and watch ye! for I too am watching with you!"

(Jacob) said: "Never will I send him with you until ye swear a solemn oath to me, in Allah's name, that ye will be sure to bring him back to me unless ye are yourselves hemmed in (and made powerless). And when they had sworn their solemn oath, he said: "Over all that we say, be Allah the witness and guardian!"

Allah said: "By no means! proceed then, both of you, with Our Signs; We are with you, and will listen (to your call).

Then there are among men such as say, "We believe in Allah"; but when they suffer affliction in (the cause of) Allah, they treat men's oppression as if it were the Wrath of Allah! And if help comes (to thee) from thy Lord, they are sure to say, "We have (always) been with you!" Does not Allah know best all that is in the hearts of all creation?

They said: "Your evil omens are with yourselves: (deem ye this an evil omen). If ye are admonished? Nay, but ye are a people transgressing all bounds!"

Here is a troop rushing headlong with you! No welcome for them! truly, they shall burn in the Fire!

Be not weary and faint-hearted, crying for peace, when ye should be uppermost: for Allah is with you, and will never put you in loss for your (good) deeds.

Say thou: "Await ye!- I too will wait along with you!"

He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days, and is moreover firmly established on the Throne (of Authority). He knows what enters within the earth and what comes forth out of it, what comes down from heaven and what mounts up to it. And He is with you wheresoever ye may be. And Allah sees well all that ye do.

(Those without) will call out, "Were we not with you?" (The others) will reply, "True! but ye led yourselves into temptation; ye looked forward (to our ruin); ye doubted (Allah's Promise); and (your false) desires deceived you; until there issued the Command of Allah. And the Deceiver deceived you in respect of Allah.

Hast thou not observed the Hypocrites say to their misbelieving brethren among the People of the Book? - "If ye are expelled, we too will go out with you, and we will never hearken to any one in your affair; and if ye are attacked (in fight) we will help you". But Allah is witness that they are indeed liars.

他们遇见信士们就说：“我们已信道了。”他们回去见了自己的恶魔，就说：“我们确是你们的同党，我们不过是愚弄他们罢了。”

你们当信我所降示的，这能证实你们所有的经典，你们不要做首先不信的人，不要以廉价出卖我的迹象，你们应当只敬畏我。

当时，真主与众先知缔约说：“我已赏赐你们经典和智慧，以后有一个使者来证实你们所有的经典，你们必须确信他，必须辅助他。”他说：“你们承认吗？你们愿意为此事而与我缔约吗?”他们说：“我们承认了。”他说：“那末，你们作证吧；我也和你们一同作证。

当时，真主与众先知缔约说：“我已赏赐你们经典和智慧，以后有一个使者来证实你们所有的经典，你们必须确信他，必须辅助他。”他说：“你们承认吗？你们愿意为此事而与我缔约吗?”他们说：“我们承认了。”他说：“那末，你们作证吧；我也和你们一同作证。

曾受天经的人啊！我将使许多面目改变，而转向后方，或弃绝他们如弃绝犯安息日的人那样，在这件事实现之前，你们应当信我所降示的新经，这部新经能证实你们所有的古经。真主的判决是要被执行的。

他们是期待你们遭遇灾难的。如果你们获得从真主发出的胜利，他们就说：“难道我们没有和你们在共同作战吗？”如果不信道者幸而战胜，他们就说：“难道我们没有战胜你们，并且使你们得免于信道者的征服吗？”故复活日真主将替你们判决，真主绝不让不信道者对信道的人有任何途径。

真主与以色列的后裔确已缔约，并从他们中派出十二个首领。真主说：“我确与你们同在。如果你们谨守拜功，完纳天课，确信我的众使者，并协助他们，并以善债借给真主，我必勾销你们的罪恶，我必让你们进入下临诸河的乐园。此后，谁不信道，谁已迷失了正路。”

你们确已孤孤单单地来见我，犹如我初次创造你们的时候一样。你们把我所赏赐你们的，抛弃在背后，你们妄称为真主的伙伴的，我不见他们同你们一道来替你们说情；你们的关系，确已断绝；你们所妄言的事，确已回避你们了。

他说：“刑罚和谴怒，必从你们的主来临你们。你们和你们的祖先所定的许多名称，真主并未加以证实，难道你们要为那些名称与我争论吗？你们等待著吧！我的确是与你们一起等待的。”

当时，你的主启示众天神：”我是与你们同在的，故你们当使信道者坚定。我要把恐怖投在不信道的人的心中。”故你们当斩他们的首级，断他们的指头。

此后信道而且迁居，并与你们共同奋斗的人，这等人是你们的同道。骨肉至亲互为监护人，这是载在天经中的，真主确是全知万物的。

假若那是临近的浮利和中程的旅行，他们必定追随你，但那距离对他们太遥远了。他们将以真主发誓说：“假若我们能出征，我们必定与你们一道出征。”他们自陷于灭亡。真主知道，他们确是说谎的。

你说：“你们只期待著我们获得两大善果之一，我们却期待著真主降天灾来折磨你们，或借我们的手惩治你们。你们期待著吧，我们确是与你们一道期待著的！”

他们说：“为何没有一种迹象从他的主降临他呢？”你说：“幽玄只归真主，你们期待著吧！我确是和你们在一起期待著的！”

他们只等待在他们之前逝去者所遭的那种苦难日子。”你说：“你们等待吧！我确是与你们一起等待的。”

我的宗族啊，你们按自己的能力而工作吧，我确是工作的！你们将知道凌辱的惩罚降临谁，而且知道谁是说谎的人。你们期待著吧！我将同你们一起期待的。”

他说：“我不派他和你们一同去，直到你们指真主而和我立誓约，你们誓必带他回来见我，除非你们全遭祸患。”当他们和他立誓约的时候，他说：“真主是监察我们的誓约的。”

主说：“绝不如此，你俩带着我的迹象去吧！我确是与你们在一起倾听（你们辩论）的。

有些人说：“我们已信真主了。”当他们为真主而受迫害的时候，他们把众人的迫害当做真主的刑罚。如果援助从你们的主降临，他们必定说：“我们确是与你们同在一起的。”难道真主不是知道世人的胸襟的吗？

他们说：“你们的厄运是伴随着你们的。难道有人教诲你们，（你们才为他而遭厄运吗？）不然！你们是过分的民众。”

这些是与你们一齐突进的队伍，他们不受欢迎，他们必入火狱。

你们不要气馁，不要求和，你们是占优势的，真主是与你们同在的，他绝不使你们的善功无效。

你说：“你们等待吧！我确是与你们一同等待的。”

他是在六日内创造天地，然后升上宝座的。他知道潜入地中的，和从地中生出的，与从天空降下的，和升上天空的。无论你们在哪里，他是与你们同在的；他是鉴察你们的行为的。

他们将喊叫信道的人们说：“难道我们与你们不是同道吗？”他们说：“不然，你们自欺、观望、怀疑正道，种种妄想，欺骗你们，直到真主的命令来临，猾贼曾以真主的优容欺骗你们。

难道你没有看见那些伪信者吗？他们对自己的朋友--信奉《圣经》而不信《古兰经》的人们说：“如果你们被放逐，我们必定与你们一同出境，我们永不服从任何人的命令而放弃你们；如果你们被攻击，我们必援助你们。”真主作证，他们确是说谎的。
