Why did not the believers - men and women - when ye heard of the affair,- put the best construction on it in their own minds and say, "This (charge) is an obvious lie"?

Behold! they came on you from above you and from below you, and behold, the eyes became dim and the hearts gaped up to the throats, and ye imagined various (vain) thoughts about Allah!

The arrogant ones will say to those who had been despised: "Was it we who kept you back from Guidance after it reached you? Nay, rather, it was ye who transgressed.

Those who had been despised will say to the arrogant ones: "Nay! it was a plot (of yours) by day and by night: Behold! Ye (constantly) ordered us to be ungrateful to Allah and to attribute equals to Him!" They will declare (their) repentance when they see the Penalty: We shall put yokes on the necks of the Unbelievers: It would only be a requital for their (ill) Deeds.

信道的人们啊！你们应当记忆真主所赐你们的恩典。当时，敌军来攻你们，我就对他们派遣暴风和你们所未见的天兵。真主是明察你们的行为的。

当时，他们从你们的上面和你们的下面来攻你们；当时，你们眼花心跳，并对真主作种种猜测。

骄傲的人们将对被欺负的人们说：“当正道来临你们的时候，我们曾妨碍你们遵循正道吗？不然，你们自愿做犯罪。”

被欺负的人们将对骄傲的人们说：“不然！这是你们昼夜的计谋。当时，你们教我们不信真主，却为他树立许多匹敌。”当他们看见刑罚的时候，他们表示悔恨。我要反枷锁放在在信道者的脖子上，他们只受他们的行为的报酬。

假若你得见当时他们恐怖而无处逃避，在一个不远的地方被逮捕。
