When it is said to them: "Come to what Allah hath revealed, and to the Messenger": Thou seest the Hypocrites avert their faces from thee in disgust.

When there comes to them some matter touching (Public) safety or fear, they divulge it. If they had only referred it to the Messenger, or to those charged with authority among them, the proper investigators would have Tested it from them (direct). Were it not for the Grace and Mercy of Allah unto you, all but a few of you would have fallen into the clutches of Satan.

And when they listen to the revelation received by the Messenger, thou wilt see their eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognise the truth: they pray: "Our Lord! we believe; write us down among the witnesses.

The Messenger's duty is but to proclaim (the message). But Allah knoweth all that ye reveal and ye conceal.

When it is said to them: "Come to what Allah hath revealed; come to the Messenger": They say: "Enough for us are the ways we found our fathers following." what! even though their fathers were void of knowledge and guidance?

Will ye not fight people who violated their oaths, plotted to expel the Messenger, and took the aggressive by being the first (to assault) you? Do ye fear them? Nay, it is Allah Whom ye should more justly fear, if ye believe!

But some of the desert Arabs believe in Allah and the Last Day, and look on their payments as pious gifts bringing them nearer to Allah and obtaining the prayers of the Messenger. Aye, indeed they bring them nearer (to Him): soon will Allah admit them to His Mercy: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

He replied: "I saw what they saw not: so I took a handful (of dust) from the footprint of the Messenger, and threw it (into the calf): thus did my soul suggest to me."

Say: "Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger: but if ye turn away, he is only responsible for the duty placed on him and ye for that placed on you. If ye obey him, ye shall be on right guidance. The Messenger's duty is only to preach the clear (Message).

Deem not the summons of the Messenger among yourselves like the summons of one of you to another: Allah doth know those of you who slip away under shelter of some excuse: then let those beware who withstand the Messenger's order, lest some trial befall them, or a grievous penalty be inflicted on them.

And they say: "What sort of a messenger is this, who eats food, and walks through the streets? Why has not an angel been sent down to him to give admonition with him?

The Day that the wrong-doer will bite at his hands, he will say, "Oh! would that I had taken a (straight) path with the Messenger!

"And if ye reject (the Message), so did generations before you: and the duty of the messenger is only to preach publicly (and clearly)."

Turnest thou not thy sight towards those who were forbidden secret counsels yet revert to that which they were forbidden (to do)? And they hold secret counsels among themselves for iniquity and hostility, and disobedience to the Messenger. And when they come to thee, they salute thee, not as Allah salutes thee, (but in crooked ways): And they say to themselves, "Why does not Allah punish us for our words?" Enough for them is Hell: In it will they burn, and evil is that destination!

O ye who believe! When ye hold secret counsel, do it not for iniquity and hostility, and disobedience to the Prophet; but do it for righteousness and self-restraint; and fear Allah, to Whom ye shall be brought back.

有人对他们说：“你们来向真主和使者起诉吧”，你会看到伪信者回避你。

当安全或恐怖的消息到达他们的时候，他们就加以传播，假若他们把消息报告使者和他们中主事的人，那末，他们中能推理的人，必定知道当如何应付。假若没有真主所赐你们的恩惠和慈恩，那末，你们除少数人外，必已顺从恶魔了。

当他们听见诵读降示使者的经典的时候，你看他们为自己所认识的真理而眼泪汪汪，他们说：“我们的主啊!我们已信道了，求你把我们同作证真理的人记录在一处。

使者只负通知的责任。真主知道你们所表现的，和你们所隐讳的。

有人对他们说：“你们来遵守真主所降示的经典吧。来服从使者吧!”他们就说：“能满足我们的，是我们的祖先的宗教。”即使他们的祖先无知无识，不循正道，（他们仍要遵守）他们的宗教吗﹖

有一族人已经违反盟约，要想驱逐先知，而且首先进攻你们。你们怎么还不讨伐他们呢？难道你们畏惧他们吗？真主是你们更应当畏惧的，如果你们确是信士。

游牧的阿拉伯人中有人想借信仰真主和末日，他们把所捐献的钱财当作媒介，以获得真主的亲近和使者的祝福。当然，他们必定要借此而获得真主的亲近，真主将使他们进入他的慈恩之中。真主确是至赦的，确是至慈的。

他说：“我曾见他们所未见的，我从使者的遗迹上握了一把土， 而我把它抛下去，我的私欲那样怂恿我。”

你说：“你们应当服从真主，应当服从使者。如果你们违背命令，那末，他只负他的责任，你们只负你们的责任。如果你们服从他，你们就遵循正道。使者只负明白的传达的责任。”

你们不要把使者对于你们的召唤当作你们相互间的召唤。 真主确是认识你们中溜走者。违抗他的命令者，叫他们谨防祸患降临他们，或痛苦的刑罚降临他们！

他们说：“这个使者怎么也吃饭，也往来于市场之间呢？ 为何真主不派一个天神降临他，而与他同为警告者，

在那日，不义者一面咬手一面说：“啊！但愿我曾与使者采取同一道路。

如果你们否认（我），那末，在你们之前的许多民族，也否认过（他们的使者）。使者的责任只是明白地传达。”

难道你没有看见不许密谈而违禁密谈的人吗？他们密谈的，是关於罪恶、侵害和违抗使者的事。他们来见你的时侯，用真主所未用的祝辞祝贺你，他们自言自语地说：“真主何不因我们所说的话而惩罚我们呢！”火狱是能使他们满足的！他们将入其中，那归宿真恶劣！

信道的人们啊！当你们密谈的时侯，不要密谈关於罪恶、侵害和违抗使者的事，你们应当密谈关於正义和敬畏的事，你们应当敬畏真主，你们将被集合到他那里。
