When it is said to them: "Follow what Allah hath revealed:" They say: "Nay! we shall follow the ways of our fathers." What! even though their fathers Were void of wisdom and guidance?

When it is said to them: "Come to what Allah hath revealed; come to the Messenger": They say: "Enough for us are the ways we found our fathers following." what! even though their fathers were void of knowledge and guidance?

The leaders, the arrogant party among his people, said: "O Shu'aib! we shall certainly drive thee out of our city - (thee) and those who believe with thee; or else ye (thou and they) shall have to return to our ways and religion." He said: "What! even though we do detest (them)?

(Moses) said: "Even if I showed you something clear (and) convincing?"

When they are told to follow the (Revelation) that Allah has sent down, they say: "Nay, we shall follow the ways that we found our fathers (following). "What! even if it is Satan beckoning them to the Penalty of the (Blazing) Fire?

What! Do they take for intercessors others besides Allah? Say: "Even if they have no power whatever and no intelligence?"

He said: "What! Even if I brought you better guidance than that which ye found your fathers following?" They said: "For us, we deny that ye (prophets) are sent (on a mission at all)."

有人劝他们说：“你们应当遵守真主所降示的经典。”他们就说：“不然，我们要遵守我们祖先的遗教。”即使他们的祖先无知无识，不循正道（他们仍要遵守他们的遗教）吗？

有人对他们说：“你们来遵守真主所降示的经典吧。来服从使者吧!”他们就说：“能满足我们的，是我们的祖先的宗教。”即使他们的祖先无知无识，不循正道，（他们仍要遵守）他们的宗教吗﹖

他的宗族中骄傲的贵族们说：“舒阿卜啊！我们一定要把你和你的信徒们逐出城外，除非你们再信我们的宗教。”他说：“即使我们厌恶你们的宗教，也要我们再信奉它吗？

他说：“要是我昭示你一个明证呢？”

如果有人对他们说：“你们应当遵守真主所降示的（经典）。”他们就说：“不然，我们遵守我们祖先的遗教。”即使恶魔叫他们去受烈火的刑罚，（他们仍要遵循）吗？

不然，他们却舍真主而要若干说情者。你说：“即使他们没有任何主权，也不了解任何事理，他们也能说情吗？”

他说：“即使我显示你们一种比你们祖先的宗教更为崇正的宗教，你们还要遵从你们的祖先吗？”他们说：“我们确是不信你们所奉的使命。”
