Ye People of the Book! Why dispute ye about Abraham, when the Law and the Gospel Were not revealed Till after him? Have ye no understanding?

Ye People of the Book! Why reject ye the Signs of Allah, of which ye are (Yourselves) witnesses?

Ye People of the Book! Why do ye clothe Truth with falsehood, and conceal the Truth, while ye have knowledge?

Say: "O People of the Book! Why reject ye the Signs of Allah, when Allah is Himself witness to all ye do?"

Say: "O ye People of the Book! Why obstruct ye those who believe, from the path of Allah, Seeking to make it crooked, while ye were yourselves witnesses (to Allah's Covenant)? but Allah is not unmindful of all that ye do."

Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who were told to hold back their hands (from fight) but establish regular prayers and spend in regular charity? When (at length) the order for fighting was issued to them, behold! a section of them feared men as - or even more than - they should have feared Allah: They said: "Our Lord! Why hast Thou ordered us to fight? Wouldst Thou not Grant us respite to our (natural) term, near (enough)?" Say: "Short is the enjoyment of this world: the Hereafter is the best for those who do right: Never will ye be dealt with unjustly in the very least!

When some of them said: "Why do ye preach to a people whom Allah will destroy or visit with a terrible punishment?"- said the preachers:" To discharge our duty to your Lord, and perchance they may fear Him."

Allah give thee grace! why didst thou grant them until those who told the truth were seen by thee in a clear light, and thou hadst proved the liars?

Behold, he said to his father: "O my father! why worship that which heareth not and seeth not, and can profit thee nothing?

He will say: "O my Lord! why hast Thou raised me up blind, while I had sight (before)?"

He said: "O my people! why ask ye to hasten on the evil in preference to the good? If only ye ask Allah for forgiveness, ye may hope to receive mercy.

They will say to their skins: "Why bear ye witness against us?" They will say: "Allah hath given us speech,- (He) Who giveth speech to everything: He created you for the first time, and unto Him were ye to return.

O ye who believe! Why say ye that which ye do not?

And remember, Moses said to his people: "O my people! why do ye vex and insult me, though ye know that I am the messenger of Allah (sent) to you?" Then when they went wrong, Allah let their hearts go wrong. For Allah guides not those who are rebellious transgressors.

O Prophet! Why holdest thou to be forbidden that which Allah has made lawful to thee? Thou seekest to please thy consorts. But Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

信奉天经的人啊！你们为什么和我们辩论易卜拉欣（的宗教）呢？《讨拉特》和《引支勒》是在他弃世之后才降示的。难道你们不了解吗？

信奉天经的人啊！你们明知真主的迹象是真的，你们为什么不信那些迹象呢？

信奉天经的人啊！你们为什么明知故犯地以假乱真，隐讳真理呢？

你说：“信奉天经的人啊！真主是见证你们的行为的，你们为什么不信真主的迹象呢?”

你说：“信奉天经的人啊！你们既是见证，为什么你们要阻止信道的人入真主的大道，并想暗示它是邪道呢？真主决不忽视你们的行为。”

难道你没有看见吗？有人曾对他们说：“你们当制止自己的武力，当谨守拜功，当完纳天课。”当真主以抗战为他们的定制的时候，他们中有一部分人畏惧敌人，犹如畏惧真主，乃至更加畏惧。他们说：“我们的主啊！你为什么以抗战为我们的定制呢？你为什么不让我们延迟到一个临近的日期呢？”你说：“今世的享受，是些微的；后世的报酬，对于敬畏者，是更好的。你们不受一丝毫的亏枉。”

当时，他们中有一伙人说：“真主要加以毁灭，或加以严惩的民众，你们何必劝戒他们呢？”他们说：“因为求得你们主的原谅，而且希望他们能敬畏。”

真主已原谅你了！认清诚实者和撒谎者之前，你为什么就准许他们不出征呢？

当时他对他父亲说：“我的父亲啊！你为何崇拜那既不能听，又不能见，对于你又没有任何裨益的东西呢？

他将说：“我的主啊！我本来不是盲目的， 你为什么使我在盲目的情况下被集合呢？”

他说：“我的宗族啊！你们为什么在恩惠之前要求刑罚早日实现呢？你们怎么不向真主求饶，以便你们蒙主的怜悯呢？”

他们将对自己的皮肤说：“你们为什么作不利于我们的见证呢？”它们将说：“能使万物说话的真主，已使我们说话了。他初次创造你们，你们只被召归于他。”

信道的人们啊！你们为什麽说你们所不做的事呢？

当时，穆萨曾对他的宗族说：“我的宗族啊！你们既知道我是真主派来教化你们的使者，你们为什麽诽谤我呢？”当他们背离正道的时候，真主使他们的心背离真理；真主是不引导悖逆的民众的。

先知啊！真主准许你享受的，你为什么加以禁戒，以便向你的妻子们讨好呢？真主是至赦的，是至慈的。
