Little is it for enjoyment: Their ultimate abode is Hell: what an evil bed (To lie on)!

If We had ordered them to sacrifice their lives or to leave their homes, very few of them would have done it: But if they had done what they were (actually) told, it would have been best for them, and would have gone farthest to strengthen their (faith);

Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who were told to hold back their hands (from fight) but establish regular prayers and spend in regular charity? When (at length) the order for fighting was issued to them, behold! a section of them feared men as - or even more than - they should have feared Allah: They said: "Our Lord! Why hast Thou ordered us to fight? Wouldst Thou not Grant us respite to our (natural) term, near (enough)?" Say: "Short is the enjoyment of this world: the Hereafter is the best for those who do right: Never will ye be dealt with unjustly in the very least!

Call to mind when ye were a small (band), despised through the land, and afraid that men might despoil and kidnap you; But He provided a safe asylum for you, strengthened you with His aid, and gave you Good things for sustenance: that ye might be grateful.

O ye who believe! what is the matter with you, that, when ye are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, ye cling heavily to the earth? Do ye prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the Hereafter.

At length, behold! there came Our command, and the fountains of the earth gushed forth! We said: "Embark therein, of each kind two, male and female, and your family - except those against whom the word has already gone forth,- and the Believers." but only a few believed with him.

(In such falsehood) is but a paltry profit; but they will have a most grievous Penalty.

(Some) say they were three, the dog being the fourth among them; (others) say they were five, the dog being the sixth,- doubtfully guessing at the unknown; (yet others) say they were seven, the dog being the eighth. Say thou: "My Lord knoweth best their number; It is but few that know their (real case)." Enter not, therefore, into controversies concerning them, except on a matter that is clear, nor consult any of them about (the affair of) the Sleepers.

那是些微的享受，将来他们的归宿是火狱。那卧褥真恶劣！

假若我命令他们说：“你们自杀或离乡吧！”他们除少数人外，都不遵命。假若他们遵行自己所受的劝戒，这对于他们必定是裨益更多的，使他们的信仰更加坚定的。

难道你没有看见吗？有人曾对他们说：“你们当制止自己的武力，当谨守拜功，当完纳天课。”当真主以抗战为他们的定制的时候，他们中有一部分人畏惧敌人，犹如畏惧真主，乃至更加畏惧。他们说：“我们的主啊！你为什么以抗战为我们的定制呢？你为什么不让我们延迟到一个临近的日期呢？”你说：“今世的享受，是些微的；后世的报酬，对于敬畏者，是更好的。你们不受一丝毫的亏枉。”

你们应当记得，当时你们在地方上是少数，是被人认为软弱可欺的，你们生怕当别人的俘虏，但他使你们安居，并以他的援助辅助你们，以佳美的食物供给你们，以便你们感谢。

信道的人们啊！教你们为真主而出征的时候，你们怎么依恋故乡，懒得出发呢？难道你们愿以后世的幸福换取今世的生活吗？今世的享受比起后世的幸福来是微不足道的。

等到我的命令来临而洪水从地面涌出的时候，我说：“你把每种动物各拿一对放在船里，并使你的家属--除已被判决者外--和信道的人们一起上船去。”只有少数人同他一起信道。

（他们只得）到一点享受，而他们将受痛苦的刑罚。

有人将说：“他们是三个，第四个是他们的狗。”有人将说：“他们是五个，第六个是他们的狗。”这是由于猜测幽玄。还有人将说：“他们是七个，第八个是他们的狗。”你说：“我的主是最知道他们的数目的，此外，只有少数人知道。关于他们的事情，只可作表面的辩论，关于他们的事情，不要请教任何人。”
