If We had ordered them to sacrifice their lives or to leave their homes, very few of them would have done it: But if they had done what they were (actually) told, it would have been best for them, and would have gone farthest to strengthen their (faith);

Do they not travel through the earth and see what was the End of those before them? They were more numerous than these and superior in strength and in the traces (they have left) in the land: Yet all that they accomplished was of no profit to them.

假若我命令他们说：“你们自杀或离乡吧！”他们除少数人外，都不遵命。假若他们遵行自己所受的劝戒，这对于他们必定是裨益更多的，使他们的信仰更加坚定的。

难道他们没有在大地上旅行，因而观察前人的结局是怎样的吗？前人比他们势力更大，成绩更多；但前人所获得的，对于自己并没有什么裨益。
