As in the case of those before you: they were mightier than you in power, and more flourishing in wealth and children. They had their enjoyment of their portion: and ye have of yours, as did those before you; and ye indulge in idle talk as they did. They!- their work are fruitless in this world and in the Hereafter, and they will lose (all spiritual good).

"And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him (in repentance): He will send you the skies pouring abundant rain, and add strength to your strength: so turn ye not back in sin!"

He said: "Would that I had power to suppress you or that I could betake myself to some powerful support."

He said: "This has been given to me because of a certain knowledge which I have." Did he not know that Allah had destroyed, before him, (whole) generations,- which were superior to him in strength and greater in the amount (of riches) they had collected? but the wicked are not called (immediately) to account for their sins.

Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls.

It is Allah Who created you in a state of (helpless) weakness, then gave (you) strength after weakness, then, after strength, gave (you weakness and a hoary head: He creates as He wills, and it is He Who has all knowledge and power.

Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the End of those before them,- though they were superior to them in strength? Nor is Allah to be frustrated by anything whatever in the heavens or on earth: for He is All-Knowing. All-Powerful.

（伪信的人们啊！你们）像你们以前逝去的民族一样，不过他们的势力比你们雄厚，财产和子嗣比你们富庶，他们曾享受他们的份儿，你们也可以享受你们的份儿，犹如在你们之前逝去的民族曾享受他们的份儿一样；你们也像他们那样去闲谈吧！这等人的善功，在今世和后世都是无效的。这等人是亏折的。

我的宗族啊！你们应当向你们的主求饶，然后归依他，他就把充足的雨水降给你们，并使你们更加富强。你们不要背离（正道）而犯罪。”

他说：“但愿我有能力抵抗你们，或退避到一个坚强的支柱。”

他说：“我获得这项财富，只是因为我有特殊的知识罢了。”难道他不知道吗？在他之前，真主所毁灭的各世代的恶人，有比他能力更强、积蓄更多的。犯罪的人，是不必加以审问的。

难道他们没有在大地上旅行而观察前人的结局是怎样的吗？前人比他们努力更大，前人于地方的恳植和建设，胜过他们。他们族中的使者来临他们，真主不致亏枉他们，但他们亏枉了自己，

真主从懦弱创造你们，在懦弱之后，又创造强壮，在强壮之后又创造懦弱和白发，他要创造什么，就创造什么。他确是全知的，确是全能的。

难道他们没有在大地上旅行，以观察前人的结局是怎样的吗？前人比他们势力更大。真主是天地间任何物不能使他无奈的，他确是全知的，确是全能的。

至于阿德人，他们不该在地方上妄自尊大，他们说：“谁比我们能力更强大呢？”难道他们不知道创造他们的真主比他们更强大吗？他们否认了我的许多迹象，
