And remember We took your covenant (to this effect): Shed no blood amongst you, nor turn out your own people from your homes: and this ye solemnly ratified, and to this ye can bear witness.

If We had ordered them to sacrifice their lives or to leave their homes, very few of them would have done it: But if they had done what they were (actually) told, it would have been best for them, and would have gone farthest to strengthen their (faith);

Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth those who are just.

Allah only forbids you, with regard to those who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you out of your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning to them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances), that do wrong.

当时，我与你们缔约，说：“你们不要自相残杀，不要把同族的人逐出境外。”你们已经承诺，而且证实了。

假若我命令他们说：“你们自杀或离乡吧！”他们除少数人外，都不遵命。假若他们遵行自己所受的劝戒，这对于他们必定是裨益更多的，使他们的信仰更加坚定的。

未曾为你们的宗教而对你们作战，也未曾把你们从故乡驱逐出境者，真主并不禁止你们怜悯他们，公平待遇他们。真主确是喜爱公平者的。

他只禁止你们结交曾为你们的宗教而对你们作战，曾把你们从故乡驱逐出境，曾协助别人驱逐你们的人。谁与他们结交，谁是不义者。
