And remember ye said: "O Moses! we cannot endure one kind of food (always); so beseech thy Lord for us to produce for us of what the earth groweth, -its pot-herbs, and cucumbers, Its garlic, lentils, and onions." He said: "Will ye exchange the better for the worse? Go ye down to any town, and ye shall find what ye want!" They were covered with humiliation and misery; they drew on themselves the wrath of Allah. This because they went on rejecting the Signs of Allah and slaying His Messengers without just cause. This because they rebelled and went on transgressing.

A section of the People of the Book say: "Believe in the morning what is revealed to the believers, but reject it at the end of the day; perchance they may (themselves) Turn back;

The Arrogant party said: "For our part, we reject what ye believe in."

"And if there is a party among you who believes in the message with which I have been sent, and a party which does not believe, hold yourselves in patience until Allah doth decide between us: for He is the best to decide.

If it were Our Will, We could take away that which We have sent thee by inspiration:then wouldst thou find none to plead thy affair in that matter as against Us,-

His companion said to him, in the course of the argument with him: "Dost thou deny Him Who created thee out of dust, then out of a sperm-drop, then fashioned thee into a man?

Then, when he decided to lay hold of the man who was an enemy to both of them, that man said: "O Moses! Is it thy intention to slay me as thou slewest a man yesterday? Thy intention is none other than to become a powerful violent man in the land, and not to be one who sets things right!"

And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, except with means better (than mere disputation), unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury): but say, "We believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our Allah and your Allah is one; and it is to Him we bow (in Islam)."

The Unbelievers say: "We shall neither believe in this scripture nor in (any) that (came) before it." Couldst thou but see when the wrong-doers will be made to stand before their Lord, throwing back the word (of blame) on one another! Those who had been despised will say to the arrogant ones: "Had it not been for you, we should certainly have been believers!"

Say: Is it that ye deny Him Who created the earth in two Days? And do ye join equals with Him? He is the Lord of (all) the Worlds.

So hold thou fast to the Revelation sent down to thee; verily thou art on a Straight Way.

当时，你们说：“穆萨啊！专吃一样食物，我们绝不能忍受，所以请你替我们请求你的主，为我们生出大地所产的蔬菜──黄瓜、大蒜、扁豆和玉葱。”他说：“难道你们要以较贵的换取较贱的吗？你们到一座城里去吧！你们必得自己所请求的食物。”他们陷於卑贱和穷困中，他们应受真主的谴怒。这是因为他们不信真主的迹象，而且枉杀众先知；这又是因为他们违抗主命，超越法度。

信奉天经的人中有一部分人说：“你们可以在早晨表示确信信士们所受的启示，而在晚夕表示不信，（你们这样做），他们或许叛教。

那些骄傲的人说：“我们绝不信你们所确信的。”

如果你们当中有一伙人确信我的使命，有一伙人不信它，那末，你们要忍耐，直到真主为我们判决。他是最公正的判决者。”

如果我意欲，我誓必把我启示你的（《古兰经》）消灭净尽，然后，你对我不能发现任何监护者。

他的朋友以辩驳的态度对他说：“你不信造物主吗？他创造你，先用泥土，继用精液，然后使你变成一个完整的男子。

当他欲扑击他俩的敌人的时候，求救的那个人说：“穆萨啊！你要象昨日杀人样杀我吗？你只想做这地方的暴虐者，却不想做调解者。”

除依最优的方式外，你们不要与信奉天经的人辩论，除非他们中不义的人。你们应当说：“我们确信降示我们的经典，和降示你们的经典；我们所崇拜和你们所崇拜的是同一个神明，我们是归顺他的。”

不信道的人们说：“我们决不信这《古兰经》，也不信以前的经典。”假若你得见不义的人们被拘留在他们的主那里的时候，他们互相辩驳，被欺负的人们将对骄傲的人们说：“假若没有你们，我们必定是信道的。”

你说：“你们真不信在两日内创造大地者，而要为他树立许多匹敌吗？那是全世界的主。”

所以你应当坚持你所受的启示，你确是在正道上的。
