Moses said: "O Pharaoh! I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds,-

Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences).

And We made a people, considered weak (and of no account), inheritors of lands in both east and west, - lands whereon We sent down Our blessings. The fair promise of thy Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because they had patience and constancy, and We levelled to the ground the great works and fine buildings which Pharaoh and his people erected (with such pride).

Said Pharaoh: "Bring me every sorcerer well versed."

We took the Children of Israel across the sea: Pharaoh and his hosts followed them in insolence and spite. At length, when overwhelmed with the flood, he said: "I believe that there is no god except Him Whom the Children of Israel believe in: I am of those who submit (to Allah in Islam)."

To Moses We did give Nine Clear Signs: As the Children of Israel: when he came to them, Pharaoh said to him: "O Moses! I consider thee, indeed, to have been worked upon by sorcery!

Moses said, "Thou knowest well that these things have been sent down by none but the Lord of the heavens and the earth as eye-opening evidence: and I consider thee indeed, O Pharaoh, to be one doomed to destruction!"

So Pharaoh withdrew: He concerted his plan, and then came (back).

Then Pharaoh pursued them with his forces, but the waters completely overwhelmed them and covered them up.

Pharaoh led his people astray instead of leading them aright.

Pharaoh said: "And what is the 'Lord and Cherisher of the worlds'?"

Then Pharaoh sent heralds to (all) the Cities,

Pharaoh said: "O Chiefs! no god do I know for you but myself: therefore, O Haman! light me a (kiln to bake bricks) out of clay, and build me a lofty palace, that I may mount up to the god of Moses: but as far as I am concerned, I think (Moses) is a liar!"

Said Pharaoh: "Leave me to slay Moses; and let him call on his Lord! What I fear is lest he should change your religion, or lest he should cause mischief to appear in the land!"

"O my People! Yours is the dominion this day: Ye have the upper hand in the land: but who will help us from the Punishment of Allah, should it befall us?" Pharaoh said: "I but point out to you that which I see (myself); Nor do I guide you but to the Path of Right!"

Pharaoh said: "O Haman! Build me a lofty palace, that I may attain the ways and means-

And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Does not the dominion of Egypt belong to me, (witness) these streams flowing underneath my (palace)? What! see ye not then?

And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin.

But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment.

穆萨说：“法老啊！我确是全世界的主所派遣的使者，

法老说：“没有获得我的许可，你们怎么就信仰了他呢？这一定是你们在城里预谋的，想借此把这城里的居民驱逐出去；不久你们就会知道了。

我使被欺负的民众，继承了我曾降福其中的土地的四境。以色列的后裔，能忍受虐待，故你的主对他们的最佳诺言已完全实现了；我毁灭了法老和他的百姓所构造的，和他们所建筑的。

法老说：“你们把一切高明的术士都召来见我吧！”

我曾使以色列人渡海，于是法老和他的军队残暴地追赶他们，直到他将被淹死的时候，他才说：“我确信，除以色列人所归信者外，绝无应受崇拜的；同时，我是一个顺服者。”

当穆萨来临以色列人的时候，我确已赏赐穆萨九种明显的迹象。你问一问以色列人吧，法老对他说：“穆萨啊！我的确猜想你是中了魔术的人。”

他说：“你确实知道，只有天地的主能降示这些作为明证。法老啊！我的确猜想你是要毁灭的。”

法老就转回去，如集他的谋臣，然后他来了。

法老统领他的军队，赶上他们，遂为海水所淹没。

法老把他的百姓领入歧途，他未将他们引入正路。

法老说：“全世界的主是什么？”

法老派遣征募者到各城市去。

法老说：“臣仆们啊！我不知道除我外还有别的神灵。哈曼啊！你应当替我烧砖，然后替我建筑一座高楼，也许我得窥见穆萨的主宰。我的确猜想他是一个说谎者。”

法老说：“你们让我杀死穆萨！叫他祈祷他的主去吧！我的确怕他改变你们的宗教，或在国内作乱。”

我的宗族啊！今日国权只归你们，你们在国中称雄。如果真主的刑罚来临，那末，谁助我们抵抗它呢？”法老说：“我只以我的主张指示你们，我只引导你们走上正道。”

法老说：“哈曼啊！你为我建造一座高楼，或许我能找到若干线索--

法老曾喊叫他的百姓说：“我的百姓啊！密斯尔（埃及）的国权，和在我脚下奔流的江河，不都是我的吗？难道你们看不见？

法老和在他之前的人，以及被倾覆的城市的居民，又再犯罪，

但法老违抗了那个使者，故我严厉地惩治了他。
