Whenever We sent a prophet to a town, We took up its people in suffering and adversity, in order that they might learn humility.

Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences).

So they both proceeded: until, when they were in the boat, he scuttled it. Said Moses: "Hast thou scuttled it in order to drown those in it? Truly a strange thing hast thou done!"

Then they proceeded: until, when they came to the inhabitants of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused them hospitality. They found there a wall on the point of falling down, but he set it up straight. (Moses) said: "If thou hadst wished, surely thou couldst have exacted some recompense for it!"

Truly Pharaoh elated himself in the land and broke up its people into sections, depressing a small group among them: their sons he slew, but he kept alive their females: for he was indeed a maker of mischief.

When Our Messengers came to Abraham with the good news, they said: "We are indeed going to destroy the people of this township: for truly they are (addicted to) crime."

我-派遣一个先知到一个城市去，（而他被人否认），我总要以穷困和患难惩治其居民，以便他们谦逊。

法老说：“没有获得我的许可，你们怎么就信仰了他呢？这一定是你们在城里预谋的，想借此把这城里的居民驱逐出去；不久你们就会知道了。

他俩就同行，到了乘船的时候，他把船凿了一个洞，穆萨说：“你把船凿了一个洞，要想使船里的人淹死吗？你确已做了一件悖谬的事！”

他俩又同行，来到了一个城市，就向城里居民求食，他们不肯款待。后来他俩在城里发现一堵墙快要倒塌了，他就把那堵墙修理好了，穆萨说：“如果你意欲，你必为这件工作而索取工钱。”

法老确已在国中傲慢，他把国民分成许多宗派，而欺负其中的一派人；屠杀他们的男孩，保全他们的女孩。他确是伤风败俗的。

当我的使者带着佳音来访易卜拉欣的时候，他们说：“我们必定毁灭这个城市的居民。这个城市的居民，确是不义的。”
