The Religion before Allah is Islam (submission to His Will): Nor did the People of the Book dissent therefrom except through envy of each other, after knowledge had come to them. But if any deny the Signs of Allah, Allah is swift in calling to account.

Be not like those who are divided amongst themselves and fall into disputations after receiving Clear Signs: For them is a dreadful penalty,-

When the Truth did come to them from Us, they said: "This is indeed evident sorcery!"

We settled the Children of Israel in a beautiful dwelling-place, and provided for them sustenance of the best: it was after knowledge had been granted to them, that they fell into schisms. Verily Allah will judge between them as to the schisms amongst them, on the Day of Judgment.

What kept men back from belief when Guidance came to them, was nothing but this: they said, "Has Allah sent a man (like us) to be (His) Messenger?"

And what is there to keep back men from believing, now that Guidance has come to them, nor from praying for forgiveness from their Lord, but that (they ask that) the ways of the ancients be repeated with them, or the Wrath be brought to them face to face?

But (now), when the Truth has come to them from Ourselves, they say, "Why are not (Signs) sent to him, like those which were sent to Moses?" Do they not then reject (the Signs) which were formerly sent to Moses? They say: "Two kinds of sorcery, each assisting the other!" And they say: "For us, we reject all (such things)!"

And they became divided only after Knowledge reached them,- through selfish envy as between themselves. Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from thy Lord, (tending) to a Term appointed, the matter would have been settled between them: But truly those who have inherited the Book after them are in suspicious (disquieting) doubt concerning it.

Yea, I have given the good things of this life to these (men) and their fathers, until the Truth has come to them, and a messenger making things clear.

But when the Truth came to them, they said: "This is sorcery, and we do reject it."

And We granted them Clear Signs in affairs (of Religion): it was only after knowledge had been granted to them that they fell into schisms, through insolent envy among themselves. Verily thy Lord will judge between them on the Day of Judgment as to those matters in which they set up differences.

真主所喜悦的宗教，确是伊斯兰教。曾受天经的人，除在知识降临他们之后，由于互相嫉妒外，对于伊斯兰教也没有异议。谁不信真主的迹象，（真主不久就要惩治谁），因为真主确是清算神速的。

你们不要象那样的人：在明证降临之后，自己分裂，常常争论；那等人，将受重大的刑罚。

当从我这儿发出的真理降临他们的时候，他们说：“这确是明显的魔术。”

我确已使以色列人居住在一个安定的地方，并以佳美的食物供给他们。他们的意见没有分歧，直到那种知识降临他们。复活日，你的主必将判决他们所争论的是非。

当正道降临众人的时候，妨碍他们信道的只是他们的这句话：”难道真主派遣一个凡人来做使者吗？”

当正道来临众人的时候，他们不信道，也不向他们的主求饶，那只是因为他们要等待（真主将）古人的常道显现于他们，或眼见刑罚来临他们。

当我所启示的真理降临他们的时候，他们说：“他为什么不能获得象穆萨所获得的迹象呢？”难道他们没有否认以前穆萨所获得的迹象吗？他们曾说：“是两种互相印证的魔术。”他们曾说：“我们必定一概都不信。”

知识来临他们后，他们才为互相嫉妒而分派别。假若不是因为你的主已预先说过要延期惩治，那末，他们必已受裁判了。在他们之后继承天经的人们，对于天经，的确在使人犹豫的疑惑中。

不然，我使这些人和他们的祖先享受，直到真理降临，及宣道的使者诞生。

真理降临他们的时候，他们说：“这是魔术，我们必定不信它。”

我曾昭示他们关于此事的许多明证，他们在知识降临他们之后，才因互相嫉妒而争论。复活日，你的主必定判决他们所争论的是非。
