And remember We appointed forty nights for Moses, and in his absence ye took the calf (for worship), and ye did grievous wrong.

And remember Moses said to his people: "O my people! Ye have indeed wronged yourselves by your worship of the calf: So turn (in repentance) to your Maker, and slay yourselves (the wrong-doers); that will be better for you in the sight of your Maker." Then He turned towards you (in forgiveness): For He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.

There came to you Moses with clear (Signs); yet ye worshipped the calf (Even) after that, and ye did behave wrongfully.

And remember We took your covenant and We raised above you (the towering height) of Mount (Sinai): (Saying): "Hold firmly to what We have given you, and hearken (to the Law)": They said:" We hear, and we disobey:" And they had to drink into their hearts (of the taint) of the calf because of their Faithlessness. Say: "Vile indeed are the behests of your Faith if ye have any faith!"

The people of the Book ask thee to cause a book to descend to them from heaven: Indeed they asked Moses for an even greater (miracle), for they said: "Show us Allah in public," but they were dazed for their presumption, with thunder and lightning. Yet they worshipped the calf even after clear signs had come to them; even so we forgave them; and gave Moses manifest proofs of authority.

Those who took the calf (for worship) will indeed be overwhelmed with wrath from their Lord, and with shame in this life: thus do We recompense those who invent (falsehoods).

当时，我与穆萨约期四十日，在他离别你们之後，你们认犊为神，你们是不义的。

当时，穆萨对他的宗族说：“我的宗族啊！你们确因认犊为神而自欺，故你们当向造物主悔罪，当处死罪人。在真主看来，这对於你们确是更好的。他就恕宥你们。他确是至宥的，确是至慈的。”

穆萨确已昭示你们许多明证，他离开你们之後，你们却认犊为神，你们是不义的。

当时，我与你们缔约，并将山岳树立在你们的上面，我说：“你们当坚守我所赐你们的经典，并当听从。”他们说：“我们听而不从。”他们不信道，故对犊之爱，已浸润了他们的心灵。你说：“如果你们是信士，那末，你们的信仰所命你们的真恶劣！”

信奉天经的人，请求你从天上降示他们一部经典。他们确已向穆萨请求过比这更重大的事，他们说：“你使我们亲眼看见真主吧。”急雷为他们的不义而袭击他们。在许多明证降临他们之后，他们又认犊为神，但我已恕饶这件事。 这曾赏赐穆萨一个明显的证据。

奉牛犊为神灵的人们，将受他们主的谴怒，在今世必受凌辱。我这样报酬诬蔑真主的人。
