The Jews say: "The Christians have naught (to stand) upon; and the Christians say: "The Jews have naught (To stand) upon." Yet they (Profess to) study the (same) Book. Like unto their word is what those say who know not; but Allah will judge between them in their quarrel on the Day of Judgment.

Not all of them are alike: Of the People of the Book are a portion that stand (For the right): They rehearse the Signs of Allah all night long, and they prostrate themselves in adoration.

When Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them, thou wilt notice a denial on the faces of the Unbelievers! they nearly attack with violence those who rehearse Our Signs to them. Say, "Shall I tell you of something (far) worse than these Signs? It is the Fire (of Hell)! Allah has promised it to the Unbelievers! and evil is that destination!"

Those who rehearse the Book of Allah, establish regular Prayer, and spend (in Charity) out of what We have provided for them, secretly and openly, hope for a commerce that will never fail:

The Unbelievers will be led to Hell in crowd: until, when they arrive, there, its gates will be opened. And its keepers will say, "Did not messengers come to you from among yourselves, rehearsing to you the Signs of your Lord, and warning you of the Meeting of This Day of yours?" The answer will be: "True: but the Decree of Punishment has been proved true against the Unbelievers!"

犹太教徒和基督教徒，都是诵读天经的，犹太教徒却说：“基督教徒毫无凭据。”基督教徒也说：“犹太教徒毫无凭据。”无知识的人，他们也说这种话。故复活日真主将判决他们所争论的是非。

他们不是一律的。信奉天经的人中有一派正人，在夜间诵读真主的经典，且为真主而叩头。

当别人对他们宣读我的明显的迹象的时候， 你看见不信道者的脸上有不悦之色；他们几乎要袭击对他们宣读我的迹象者。你说：“我告诉你们比这个更恶劣的好吗？那就是火狱。真主以火狱应许不信道者，那归宿真恶劣！

诵读真主的经典，且谨守拜功，并秘密地或公开地分舍我所赐予他们的财物者，他们希望这经营不破产，

不信道者，将一队一队地被赶入火狱，迨他们来到火狱前面的时候，狱门开了，管狱的天神要对他们说：“难道你们族中的使者没有来对你们宣读你们的主的迹象，并警告你们将有今日的相会吗？”他们说：“不然！不信道的人们，应当受刑罚的判决。”
