Before thee We sent (messengers) to many nations, and We afflicted the nations with suffering and adversity, that they might learn humility.

Then We changed their suffering into prosperity, until they grew and multiplied, and began to say: "Our fathers (too) were touched by suffering and affluence" ... Behold! We called them to account of a sudden, while they realised not (their peril).

If the people of the towns had but believed and feared Allah, We should indeed have opened out to them (All kinds of) blessings from heaven and earth; but they rejected (the truth), and We brought them to book for their misdeeds.

The (people) rejected all Our Signs; but We seized them with such Penalty (as comes) from One Exalted in Power, able to carry out His Will.

在你之前，我确已派遣（许多使者）去教化各民族，（他们否认使者的使命），故我以穷困和患难惩治他们，以便他们谦逊。

随后我转祸为福，直到他们富庶，并且说：“我们的祖先确已遭过患难，享过康乐了。”于是，当他们不知不觉时，我惩治他们。

假若各城市的居民，信道而且敬畏，我必为他们而开辟天地的福利，但他们否认先知，故我因他们所作的罪恶而惩治他们了。

他们否认了我的一切迹象，故我以万能者全能者的态度，惩治了他们。
